Ski Patroller Games

Teams & Schedule of Events 2002

Lunch this year will be catered by the Cork & More out of South Lake Tahoe (the proprietor is a Heavenly Patroller and he is giving us a great lunch for a great price).

Cascade Toboggan out of Washington and American Ski Corporation have donated some merchandise for prizes.

The Tentative Schedule (subject to change due to snow conditions, weather, mountain operations and the whim of the organizers)

7:15 - 7:30 Registration for Heavenly Teams
7:30 - 8:15 Registration for visiting teams  - Registration in the Foundation Building at the highest point of the parking lot near the tram (2 big red cars) at California Base, Ski Run Blvd, South Lake Tahoe.  Do NOT go to the gondola (many small 8 passenger cars) just off Highway 50 near the casinos.
8:15 - 8:30 Move sleds up tram and to race start on Roundabout run.
8:30 - 9:30 Visiting patrollers familiarize themselves with Roundabout run.
9:30 - 10:30 Empty Toboggan Relay down Roundabout run. At 9:30 one team member needs to be at the start, one team member at Ski-in-Tree Corner, one team member at Smart's Corner and one team member at Burt's Corner.  Handoff from team member to team member going down the course will be at these locations.  Moving handoffs are permitted within the boundaries established at each corner.  Teams will be separated by 2 or 3 minutes on the course so don't delay as you will be run over by the team behind you!  A lottery will determine race order on this course.
10:00 - 12:00 Obstacle marking.  Each team member must try to hit targets in the snow from the moving World Cup Chair.  Note that this event runs concurrently with other races.  Each team member must complete the Obstacle marking by noon.
11:00 - 12:00 GS Race on World Cup.  Each team member will get one run through the gates for best time.  Random race order, first come first served.
11:30 - 1:00 Lunch  Tri tip and grilled chicken sandwiches catered by Cork & More
12:45 - 2:00

Run a wreck on World Cup.  Same race order as Toboggan relay.

Two teams will be on the course at the same time.  One team member is a "patient" located part way down the race course.  Two patrollers respond to the patient. At the scene at least one responding patroller crosses their skis (or removes their snowboard) and the toboggan responds through the course.  Specified first aid is done to the patient, the patient is loaded in the toboggan, a second patroller gets in the toboggan and the team with a tail rope person finishes the course.

2:05 - 2:30 Yard Sale.  All participants from all teams will line up on Roundabout above World Cup.  A collection of hats, gloves, boots, poles, litter and ?? will be distributed over the World Cup run.  At a signal all participants will try to collect as much stuff as possible and turn it in to judges at the base of the run.  1 point per item.  2 points for a pair of gloves or a pair of shoes.
2:30 - 4:00 Free ski with Heavenly patrollers
4:15 Libations on the deck at the Top of the Tram restaurant.  Award presentations.
4:45 Last run down the Face with Sweep
