OEC Courses
OEC (Outdoor Emergency Care) courses are designed by the National Ski Patrol to instruct candidates in the proper procedures for dealing with injuries in the outdoors, possibly under harsh conditions. Candidates practice treatment with a variety of equipment and resources, sometimes with limited initial access to both. OEC technicians are trained to provide emergency care for a very wide variety of illnesses and injuries.
Heavenly Ski Patrol candidates must possess a current OEC credential by taking and passing an OEC course. Candidates must also have a certificate from a Professional Rescuer CPR training course completed during the summer or fall of the candidate year [NSP requires that all patrollers be in possession of a CPR card which is no more than 12 months old].
For information regarding OEC classes offered in Northern California, go to easternsierraregion.org and contact the Instructor of Record for more details. These classes are typically posted in the Summer and classes usually begin in August or later in the Fall.
