OEC Courses

Mock scenarios to deal with patients

The OEC (Outdoor Emergency Care) courses are designed by the National Ski Patrol to instruct candidates the proper procedures for dealing with injuries on the hill. The course is designed to train you to provide first aid in an outdoor setting, possibly under harsh conditions, with limited initial access to equipment, but progressively adding equipment and resources. OEC technicians are trained to provide emergency care for environmental illnesses and injuries, spinal injuries, and ski/snowboard and other outdoor injuries.

Candidates for the upcoming season will need to take an OEC course and Professional CPR training course during the summer or fall. Alternatively candidates with emergency medical care backgrounds such as EMTs, paramedics, nurses and doctors can challenge the first aid training program after the start of the season.

Refer to the Eastern Sierra Region website for a complete list of OEC courses.
