Women in Patrol

Women's Sled Clinic 2006
Annual Heavenly Area Women's Sled & Ski Clinic

Women In Patrol

The group of women on this page participated in a women's sled handling clinic each year in February. Two 125 pound women can take a 230 pound man through a mogul field as well as two men can. We learn to handle sleds with technique and finesse - size is not of paramount importance.

If you have ever considered being a patroller, read our How to Join page. They can put you in touch with one of us and we'd be happy to tell you about the satisfaction of patrolling as volunteer members of the National Ski Patrol. We are fairly fit and love to ski, as do the men. We pass Emergency Medical Technician or Outdoor Emergency Care courses. We learn to handle sleds, evacuate chair lifts,  raise tower pads and tie ropes.

Women work as both paid patrollers and as volunteer members of the National Ski Patrol. Are we unique? Only in that we  share a love of the outdoors and physical activities. Our "other" professions include school teaching, computer programming, health fields, architecture and business. Some of us are moms. All of us love working as Ski Patrollers.

Annual Heavenly Women's Clinic

Each spring, women's patrollers from around the region are invited to come participate in a day long clinic specific to enhancing their craft. If you are interested in information regarding these clinics, contact Trudy Nye (trudy@heavenlyareaskipatrol.org).
