| About Ski Patrol at Heavenly | ||
Heavenly Area Ski Patrol, has been in existence since 1960 and is part of the National Ski Patrol system. Joining Heavenly Area Ski Patrol involves becoming a member of the National Ski Patrol System of America. National Ski Patrol Within the Far West Division, Heavenly Area Ski Patrol belongs to the Eastern Sierra Region, which also includes the other Lake Tahoe volunteer Alpine and Nordic patrols. Within the Heavenly Area Patrol, there are four volunteer alpine (National) patrols serving this vast mountain. The patrols and the respective geographic areas where their members reside are as follows: Heavenly Area Service Patrols - links are to e-mails to the patrol leaders.
These four patrols are designed to group the 100+ Heavenly members into more effective functional units, based upon residential address. The Heavenly Area Patrol coordinates the efforts of the four patrols. In this manner, patrols are able to organize meetings, socials and other activities in their areas. It should be stated that there are strong fraternal ties within these 4 patrols, but there is an equal if not greater sense of camaraderie between individual patrollers, with many patrollers fostering life long friendships. Members are offered opportunities in training, emergency care, avalanche and mountain rescue education. All forms of training are set forth as guidelines from the National office and these are, in turn, incorporated into resort-specific protocols. More information about joining the patrol
